I watched Black Hawk Down again last Saturday. I have the same question as you have - why are wars fought? I understand the 300 Spartans fighting for their man, women and children. I don’t understand those modern wars. When I visited Washington DC, looking at those tombstones at Arlington National Cemetery, I still can’t understand the root of wars. However, I know those tombstones once were vivid human beings belonging to tons of happy families. My friend’s son now is in the high risk area at Middle East. Every time when he calls her, she will tell me with tears in her eyes “thanks god, he is still alive!”
As a civilian, we may never have chance to understand the root of wars, there is always people paying for the war, no matter it is my war or others’ war. And mostly, the person who pays for this is not the person who starts war.
Anyway, we still have a little faith in Peace, for our men, women, and children :)
